Race Rules
Pre-entries only. Online entries close 1st October @ 18h00 (or when limit reached)
Compulsory to wear Big Bay Events timing tags – Ownership (R100) or rental (R25) options
Compulsory to wear an inflated swim buoy. Either your own or purchase an event buoy
Compulsory to wear event swim cap
2.5 hour cut off at 6km mark applies to 6km and 12km events. Any swimmer not reaching the 6km mark at 12:00pm will be removed from the water (subject to safety review on race day)
All swimmers to hand their event goody bag with warm clothing to the race organisers prior to race start
CLDSA accreditation for all 12km swimmers complying with CLDSA rules. (www.cldsa.co.za)
Race Logistics
Swimmers to register on Friday evening or early Saturday morning by previous arrangement
All swimmers will be issued with an event goody bag
Event goody bag ONLY to be taken on bus to the start. Clothing worn to the start to fit into the goody bag for transfer to race finish. Please ensure your clothing fits into the bag, so wear minimal clothing and preferably slops for footwear
12km swimmers to park at Mykonos Green
6km swimmers to park at Pearly’s
Bus departs from Mykonos Green and Pearly’s at 6:30am, and proceeds to race start at Preekstoel to arrive no later than 7:30am
Entrance fees to SanParks Reserve are prepaid for swimmers on the bus. Should you use your own transport then you will be required to pay again.
Final check and race briefing takes place between 7:30 & 7:45am
Swimmers to start entering the water in 30 second gaps starting with the slowest swimmers with the fastest swimmer starting last. Individual times will be recorded.
Goody bags loaded onto trailer and transferred to race finish
Race Safety & Swimmer Support

Inflatable boat feeding stations to be anchored at 2km, 6km, 8,5km & 11km points
Mixture of Maltodextrin carb powder, rooibos tea and honey is supplied for feeding. (Staple feed for most English Channel Swimmers)
Additional roving safety boats to monitor the field
Lifeguards on paddle craft will be spread throughout the course to monitor swimmers
Swimmers welcome to have their personal support subject to strict adherence of instructions from safety crew and pre-approval by the event safety team.
